Whole Kids Yoga & Books
Creating balanced kids through movement, mindfulness, and literacy.
The Whole Kids Yoga Story
Whole Kids Yoga and Books was born out of my passion for literacy, yoga, and children's health and wellness. Throughout my 25 year teaching career I began to notice how much my students needed to learn self-regulation and embodiment so that they could become their best selves each day. When the pandemic hit and we were all forced to be out of the classroom, I noticed that the time apart had really impacted students' mental health and well being.
Something was missing.
In the summer of 2021, I earned my Kids Yoga teaching certification from Yoga Alliance. This allowed me to begin teaching kids the very practices that have helped me so much in my own life. I discovered that working with kids in a yoga session could go way beyond just entertaining them and instead tap into their imaginations and joy through movements and breath practices.
I decided to combine my knowledge of two and a half decades of literacy teaching with my passion for wellness and create yoga sessions that had a central theme built around picture books.
Since 2021, I have been working both in a local yoga studio and at my elementary school teaching yoga through literacy. Watching these children show pure joy as they move, dance, play, and create poses through the books we read has been one of the greatest delights of my life.
Whole Kids Yoga and Books was born out of these experiences.
Now, I want to reach more families and have sessions outside of a school or yoga studio where I can have the freedom to work with kids and families in their homes. I am so grateful to all of the families who have chosen to trust me with their children and allow me to help build their health and wellness.
I cannot wait to do that for your child as well. Welcome and let's get started!
About Kirsten
Hi, I'm Kirsten. I live in Colorado and have been an educator for the past 25 years. I have my Masters in Literacy Education from CU Boulder and I have worked as both a classroom teacher and small group literacy specialist in public and private schools in Colorado, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
When working with children, my interests are around their health, wellness and literacy development. I believe that children learn best when they have well-balanced minds and bodies. This comes from eating healthy foods, getting enough rest and moving their bodies mindfully every day. When they have this balance they can learn, grow, and be their best unique selves!
My personal passions include being outside in Nature: hiking, camping, kayaking, Nordic skiing or just reading a book under a tree. I love to read, do yoga, and dance to live music. I also cherish spending time with my wife Amanda, our Golden Retriever Foster and with our friends and family who are spread out across the country and world.
In addition to my full life in Colorado, I have a deep love of travel. Of the 45 states and 41 countries I have been to so far, I have noticed that as humans we truly are all connected. I have learned that what people most want both for themselves and their children is to be safe, educated and happy. Only then can we hope to make the world a better place.
This is my hope for Whole Kids Yoga: To combine all of my passions and make a difference in children's lives through mindful movement, joyful play, and literacy.
Thank you so much for joining me on this journey and for supporting a woman-owned small business.

Offerings
I am so excited that you are interested in yoga for your child! It is truly my honor to provide these services to you.
At Whole Kids Yoga, my goal is to craft individualized yoga sessions that incorporate your child's unique interests and also meet your family's wellness goals.
Prior to our first session, we will have an introduction meeting where my goal will be to get to know you and your family a bit better. I want to learn what sparks your child's curiosity so that I may develop sessions that capture that joy! This meeting can be either in person or virtual and will help me build my yoga classes in a more authentic way.
Contact me to set up our Introduction Meeting!
Please see below for examples of some of the services I offer:

Private Yoga Sessions
These sessions are catered to your child's specific interests and needs. After our introduction meeting, I will design yoga practices paired with books that align with what brings your child joy!
These 75 minute sessions can take place in your home or yard, at a park, during a play date, birthday party, or as a re-occurring weekly meeting. These sessions are as unique as your family is and will follow your child as I learn about them.

For Teachers
If you are a teacher and looking to add some movement and mindfulness to your classroom, Whole Kids Yoga can help get you started! I work with teachers to incorporate mindful movement into the school day using literacy and themes that work with what students are currently learning in the classroom. During our introduction meeting we will discuss your current goals for your students, how I can help them learn content through yoga, and ways for you to continue these practices going forward.

Yoga with a Therapy Dog
Does your child love dogs? Whole Kids Yoga offers special sessions of yoga and literacy with a furry Golden Retriever by their side. My dog Foster is a certified therapy dog with both the Alliance of Therapy Dogs and the READ dog program. He has worked in schools and libraries with children who need that extra boost of animal companionship as they read or practice yoga. Please let me know if you are interested in having Foster join us for a kids yoga session catered just for them!

Karmic Pricing
At Whole Kids Yoga, I believe strongly that yoga and wellness should be attainable for every child and family. My pricing follows the yogic principle that money is a form of energy that is exchanged for a service rendered. At our Introduction Meeting, we can discuss pricing that is comfortable and meets the needs of your family.
